The Perfect Present-How to Shop for the Whole Family

Okay, I hate to break it to you all, but Christmas is coming soon. It won’t be long until were all putting up the tree and hanging the stockings. But what are you supposed to buy your family??? First, you might want to ask them what they would like for a gift or see what their favourite toys are at the moment. From this information, you can gather similar presents or surprise them with the items on their wish-list. If your still stumped on the ideal gifts, follow this simple guide to find the perfect present.

1-5 year olds

The Perfect Present-How to Shop for the Whole Family

1-5 year olds will be absolutely over the moon with the new toy or stuffed animal. No matter if your child is a girl or a boy, you can never go wrong with a fluffy teddy bear. Another big hit for over 3 year olds is Lego. Lego is popular with little kids as it gives them a chance to let loose and go wild with their imaginations. Lego and other building block materials are a great way for your child to be set free into a world of happiness and creativity.

6-8 year olds

6-8 year olds are still loving the toys and Legos, but as they start to grow up and move up at school, writing books, stationary and visual puzzle books can also be extremely entertaining and fun.

A good way to keep your child’s education enriched at home is to influence the love of reading, writing and learning on them from a young age. Books and writing utensils should always be kept at home and repeatedly used around the house, but once your child is over 6 years old, a great way to keep them happy and educated is to buy them books and writing equipment. Encourage your children to independently read and write by giving them books about topics that they are interested in.

9-11 year olds

9-11 year olds have moved on past toys and picture books and are now looking for chapter books and TV. At this age, reading and writing ability has greatly increased and larger books should be introduced. Some popular book series to keep them hooked to the last word include:

  • Diary if a Wimpy Kid-Jeff Kinney

  • Alice-Miranda-Jacqueline Harvey

  • 11 Birthdays-Wendy Mass

These books, along with some new stationary, fashionable clothes and if possible a gaming system, will keep your kids entertained forever.

12-14 year olds

12-14 year olds are focused on the end of primary school, the beginning of high school and really want to find their place to stand in it all. They don’t want to be treated like a little kid anymore and want their opinions to be heard.

So when you’re buying a gift for these guys: ASK THEM WHAT THEY WANT FIRST. The last thing anyone of this age group wants is to be given a baby toy or a book that they are never going to read. Start simple and look through a shop catalog or website. If they point out anything, jot it down and remember it for when you need to buy a gift.

If you are still stumped on the perfect gift you can never go wrong with a movie that they have seen at the movies and has recently come out or merchandise from their favourite movie or TV show.

15-17 year

15-17 years olds will be perfectly fine with a gift of money or a gift card for their favourite shop.

18+

People over 18 would be fine with getting their own gifts or some money. Photo frames or clothes also never go wrong. Hopefully now you know what to get for your family or friends now.

Always xxo
