Castle is an awesome murder mystery drama TV show that follows crime novelist Richard Castle and NYPD (New York Police Department) Homicide Detective, Katherine Beckett.
The pilot, Flowers For Your Grave, kicks off at Rick Castle’s book party for his new bestseller, Storm Fall. In this book, Rick has just killed off his main character after many books, as, writing the character was merely too much work and no fun. Without a new character, Rick is troubled with what to write about.
The show cuts to Katherine Beckett walking into an apartment with a woman’s dead body laying on a table covered in rose petals with sunflowers on her eyes. Her partners, Detectives Kevin Ryan and Javier Esposito and ME (Medical Examiner), Lanie Parish are bewildered with this strange murder but Kate Beckett instantly recognises it.
“Don’t you people read,” Kate says to her co-workers as she remembers exactly how she knows this crime scene.
The show cuts back to Rick at his book party with his beautiful daughter, Alexis Castle, and wise mother, Martha Rodgers. Martha walks away after a chat with her family to go and mingle with the guests, “Mama’s going fishing!!!” and leaves Rick and Alexis. Father and daughter discuss how Rick would like someone to come up to him and say something new rather than the common autographs and fans.
After saying this, Rick is approached by Kate “Detective Kate Beckett, NYPD, we need to ask you some questions about a murder that took place tonight,” to which Alexis says to her father, “That’s new.”
The TV show then shows Kate interrogating Rick. There have been two murders committed that bear an extreme resemblance to books that Rick has written. Rick immediately grows feelings for Kate and likes to push her buttons whilst Kate, hesitantly and secretly, also has feelings for Rick. After the interrogation, Rick is in the clear and free to go but wants to get the pictures of the dead bodies to prove to his writer buddies that he has a homicidal copy cat but Kate says no. Rick then says goodbye, gives Kate a copy of his latest book and plants a kiss on her cheek at which she secretly fan girls about. 5 seconds later, Kate realises that she has been played and sees that the crime scene photos have been stolen by Rick.
“Richard Castle, you are under arrest for…” Kate marches into the New York library shouting. “You forgot making you look bad,” Rick replies. The case goes on with Rick and Kate working together to solve it, filled with romance, anger and passion. A twist at the end results with Rick being held at gunpoint and Kate there ready to save him. With the killer taken care of and the case done and dusted, Kate walks up to Rick,
“Guess this is it,” she says.
“It doesn’t have to be, we could go to dinner, debrief each other,” Castle reciprocates.
“So I can be one of your conquests?” says Beckett.
“Or I could be one of yours.”
“It was nice to meet you, Castle.”
“Too bad, it would have been great.”
“You have no idea,” Kate whispers into his ear romantically.
Stop and Stare by One Republic plays as Kate walks away.
The next day, Kate is called into the 12th precinct to Captain Roy Montgomery’s office where she is annoyed with the news that Rick has based his new novel on her and will be following her around to lend authenticity to the books.
